Some close up shots of my Veedub

Here are some close up shots. They look kinda cool when you zoom in on them. :) The St Christopher looks too good on the dashboard. I do not want to replace it with a radio. Someone drilled a hole onto the radio cover plate though .. may replace it if I chance upon one. The blue colour tool bag was made for me by my wife. It holds all my tools (what else?), some spare parts like fuses, fan belts and my John Muir manual. The blinker is in good working condition too. The red colour Hella horns are real loud and they stand out visually. :)

After being spruced up

Here are some pictures of my ambulance after being spruced up.

This took several weeks and it was all worth the wait. The ambulance interior (stretchers & cabinets) were all taken out, plastic wrapped and stored. Windows were tinted (Indonesian Anti Theft Measure), ambulance sign removed (to save me from an angry mob if I happened to pass by a road accident and were unable to send the victim to the hospital) air conditioning unit fitted (extremely hot, humid & dusty here in Indonesia), electrical wires sorted out, wheel bearings changed, holes in engine tinware patched up, minor repairs done to brakes, engine servicing & tune up, bench seats re-covered, floor re-covered with marine rubber flooring etc .....

All I need now is a lowering job for the front end and perhaps a Gene berg bus shifter? hee hee hee. :)

1971 VW Ambulance before being spruced up

Here are some pictures of my Veedub before it was spruced up.

The ambulance interior was carefully removed and stored. My plan is to use this Kombi as my daily driver and in the future, re-install all the ambulance fittings and let it lead a pampered life in my garage, only going out for a leisure cruise once in a while. :)

I bought this ambulance from a guy who kept it for a few years after buying it from a local hospital. It's practically rust free and the engine runs tight and smooth. Sadly, the original siren is no longer around when I bought it. Someone must have found some use for it. :(

On a happier note, ths ambulance came complete with all its import documentation. I may post some of these documents in this blog if there's anyone interested to view it.

Welcome to my Veedub Blog.

Welcome to my Veedub blog. :) This is where I'll post pictures of my very own 1971 VW ambulance and other veedubs that I chance upon on the streets of Indonesia. I may also post some pictures of other interesting vehicles that I see. These may include old Land Rovers and Vespa scooters. Yummy :)

Indonesia is where you can find old vehicles still plying down their roads. Many of the old vehicles are already in a ratty beat up state but they are still hard at work. Once in a while, you can spot pristine old vehicles out at play. I have my camera with me all the time and I will try my best to take a few snap shots to be uploaded into this blog.
